Can someone please tell me in what kind of a scenario do we host a web service on XI?

What purpose does it serve and how is it done?

Hi,

For Sender WebServices we need to invoke the Webservice in XI.

When you will use the sender SOAP adapter then you have to give the end-point URL indicating to XI. Thus you need to invoke the WEbservice with giving the Message Interface details in Communication Channel and generating the wsdl with URL as

http://<host name>:<Port no>/XISOAPAdapter/MessageServlet?channel=<party>:<service>:<communication channel>
