Adding Fonts to Adobe Live Cycle Designer font palette

Former Member

Hi,

In Adobe Live Cycle designer (in SFP), I observed that the font palette displays the fonts that are installed on the desktop you are using it.

I have a requirement where some true type fonts (MICR) are to be displayed and used in the Form independent of the system(desktop) it is used.

1) Is there anyway to add fonts on the ADS so that wherever the form is used the fonts are displayed correctly and are not converted to the standard types

2) If there is no such option, can we embed the fonts in the form so that the form can be printed with the fonts correctly even when the desktop where the form is used doesn't have the fonts installed.

I am using Adobe Live Cycle designer 7.0 and SAP NW 2004s SP 15

.

Note - Also please let me know how if there are any printer configurations to print these forms.

Thank you,

Vasu

Hi Vasu,

Yes you can add fonts on ADS.

Adobe document services require access to fonts that are installed with the Font Manager Module. This module contains a number of Adobe bundled fonts installed in

"/usr/sap/<SAPSID>/JC<xx>/j2ee/os_libs/adssap/FontManagerService/fonts/adobe".

You can also add fonts obtained from other vendors. The types of fonts you can add are OpenType® (.otf), TrueType® (.ttf), and PostScript® Type 1 (.pfb/.pfm).

Procedure

To add fonts:

...

1. Create a subdirectory called fonts below the

"/usr/sap/<SAPSID>/SYS/global/AdobeDocumentServices/ FontManagerService" directory.

Enter JC<xx> if your system is a SAP Web AS J2EE system.

Enter DVEBMGS<xx> if your system is a SAP Web AS ABAP + J2EE system (J2EE Add-In).

2. Create a subdirectory called customer below the fonts/ directory created in the previous step.

3. Copy your fonts into the "/usrsap/<SAPSID>/SYS/global/AdobeDocumentServices/ FontManagerService/fonts/customer" directory.

4. Restart the Document Services Font Manager for the changes to take effect.

5. Also restart the application com.adobe/AdobeDocumentServices for the changes to take effect.

Hi Ravi,

I actually did add the fonts the way you suggested. Still I see only the fonts that are installed on the desktop (windows\fonts) where Adobe Live Cycle Designer is used.

I want the fonts to be displayed and used independent of the system that is used i.e. each and every time we use SAP (SFP) on a new system, we need not install the fonts in the windows.

Thank you,

Vasu

Hi Vasu,

Adding fonts to the ADS will not help as ADS configuration for different systems is different. For this you have to search for any other way. According to my knowledge its not possible as you require.

Hi Vasu,

In SFP, when u click on preview tab or if a form is open in an application . the local system adobe reader will execute and content will display in adobe formate in SFP/application.

If you are used a specif font in form(while designing), the same font should be in the reader, so that it will render correctly when form opens, other wise it will take default font of reader.

Here my suggestion is release a new adobe patch include this font, it will may solve u r problem .

generally reader font directory is :

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Resource\Font

Hi Vasu,

According to my knowledge its not possible to attach fonts within pdf form. But you can send the fonts separately in the email where you are sending the form there the user can install those fonts and can use them.

Hi Vaibhav,

We are not sending the PDF form. The user access it in SFP (SAP Form builder) and prints from there.

There are many end users and it is not possible to send the fonts for each and everyone and they are usually reluctant to do this as they want to access it as simple as possible.

Also we have background printing from different systems and we are looking for an intuitive solution.

Thank you,

Vasu
