MI31 Document creation blocks Materials in all Storage locations/Plant

Hi.,

If i understand correct, you can create PI documents at Plant(1) /Storage location ( S.Loc Say A) .level.

Until the Physical Inventory Count documents are posted, SAP will not allow any kind of movement of Materials at that Plant(1) /Storage location level (S.loc A).

For the same Plant (1) ,if there are more than one storage location say B,C or D, the Physical Inventory count process would not affect the movement ,GR, GI of Materials in S.loc B, C or D. (Right ?)

Situation (1) :What is happening is, when PI documents are created for Plant (1), S.Loc (A) , Materials(Different) and the count is in process, the system is not allowing the GI, GR , movement of those materials in Storage location B, C or D. Message is Material is blocked by User (who has generated the PI document.)

Situation(2): Same Materials in different Plant (2) under the same company code are also denied any movement while the Count is in process in Plant (1).

I was wondering if anyone has come across this kind of scenario and the solution for the same.

Hi,

I did 1 quick full cycle for this scinario.

When you block/freeze a material because of PI, the material move can not be done for that Plant..

But system will allow/allowing to post the material movement for the other Plants( same company code or diff company code).

The point is Material Block is at Plant Level. Not Material level or Storage location level.

In MI31, you have the fields to define a Plant(A) and the Storage location where you want the PI documents to be created.

As per SAP, PI documents are created Plant/Storage location level so as not to block Material movement in other storage locations.

If as per your explanation, PI documents are created at Plant level for a company code, what are the parameters in Configuration that would block those materials in a different Plant (B) under the same company code?

We are having a situation where a different plant (B) under the same company code is also having a problem in Materials movement when Physical inventory is taking place in the Plant (A).

When you have defined only one Plant and One storage location (A) in MI31 for PI document creation, why are the materials in Storage location B, C and D are being blocked for material movement ?.

Any ideas- suggestions clarifying the same.
