What is the difference among Bom, Multiple bom and Variant configuration?pls, let me know.

Hi,

Bill of material (BOM)

A list of all of the items that make up a product or assembly. The list has a formal structure and states the name, quantity, and unit of measure for each component.

eg : Computer containing a CPU, KD, Mouse, Monitor.

Multiple BOM is also a BOM but the difference is that one of the components of a main material again contain a list of items ie BOM. The field structure scope at the main item category of a multiple BOM controls whether or not multi level BOM should explode or not. You need set the indicator as B at VOV7 in the structure scope field.

Variant Configuration

Variant configuration is for manufacturing complex products. The manufacturer is always having to offer new variants of its products. Often, new variants are created by modifying existing product designs as you process the order. The important thing is to react quickly to customers' requirements.

The customer determines the features of the product. A customer buying a car, for example, can choose the features of the car and combine these features as required.

Hi Friend,

When you have more than one component for one material this is known as bill of material or BOM.

Multiple bom is when you have one bom as one component under another bom.

And variant bom is when you have one material with many component with various options for one or more components.

1) Bom( Parent Material)- 1) Component1 (Child Material)

2) Compinent2( Child Material)

3)etc

Multiple BOM (Here too all the compents will be used )

1) Bom( Parent Material)- 1) Component1 (Child Material) - 1) Compnent (Child)

2)Compnent( Child)

2) Compinent2( Child Material)

3)etc

Variant BOM or Super BOM ( Depends on the confinguration of the material in the sales order , the compenments will be picked from the BOM and will be used )

1) Bom( Parent Material)- 1) Component1 (Child Material)

2) Compinent2( Child Material)

3)etc
