Former Member
0 Kudos

My sap system is 46D-ext running on Win2003/ora10.2

oracle start with no error, but SAP don't.

I get message "db connect failed" and all the wp die.

R3trans -d is ok :

C:\Documents and Settings\bcpadm>R3trans -d

This is R3trans version 6.05 (release 46D - 30.09.03 - 16:30:42).

R3trans finished (0000).

here is a trace file of wp, they all look like the same.

Please, help.

Thank you.

Former Member

Oracle patch installed: 10.2.0.1.0 / 10.2.0.2.0

SAP R/3 Kernel : 46D_EXT

Database library OCI_920_SHARE_OCI_7_API

Support pack # : 2356

I have reduce the number of WPs : I still get half of them starting.

any Oracle minipatches (latest released are 16 and 17)?

Former Member

Hello Yaroslav

I have le opatch mentionned above.

I installed a CPU patch as well.

Do you have a command to check the latest "mini patch" ?

Thanks a lot for your help.

former_member433984

Run OUI from Programs -> Oracle -> Oracle Installation Products, check "installed products" for your Oracle SID, there should be the list of installed patches and minipatches

> Do you have a command to check the latest "mini patch" ?

- login as <sid>adm

- open a cmd.exe

- %ORACLE_HOME%\OPatch\opatch lsinventory

This will show you a list of installed patches.

opatch lsinventory is the one i did and it gave me the patch mention previously (10.2.0.2)

There is also "Patch 6397028" (CPU patch)

with oracle installer, i don't find other patch installed.

markus_doehr2

You should install the latest interim patch:

http://service.sap.com/swcenter-3pmain

--> Oracle

--> Oracle 32bit (or Oracle 64bit)

--> Oracle 10.2.0 (32/64bit)

--> Oracle 10.2.0.2

--> NT_I386 (or Win_X86_64 or Win_IA64)

--> 10202_Patch17_WINNT.zip

Unzip that patch and install it using "opatch apply <directory>".

exactly, and one more question - how many WPs are configured to start and how many CPU does the hardware have?

Former Member
0 Kudos

CPU : 16 Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU at 2992 Mhz

RAM : 8190 Mo

OS : Microsoft(R) Windows(R) Server 2003, Enter En

Version OS : Service Pack 1 Build OS : 5.2.3790

I start with 26 WPs ( i decreased the number of wp to 26 to check if it would be better, but i still have the same problem)

Thank you all !

Former Member

I have decreased the WP to 16

SAP start with no problem.

On the other server, it runs with more WPs.

How can i know how many WP can i have ?

It's strange because on my others servers, i have more WPs.

I don't know what is wrong here...

An idea ?

Thanks and Regards,

Djam

ORA-12537 is "TNS connection closed".

check if you listener is up and running, restart it and try again.

Markus

Former Member

Thank you for replying

Listener is up and running.

I stopped/start it but i get the same errors.

I can connect to database with "R3trans -d"

When i start oracle, i get no error.

When I start SAP, i have some WP running and others die with the error i posted.

When I restart a died WP individually, it starts ok.

It is as if all WP can't start together. (i have 30 WP)

This is a new SAP server that has been refresh with another DB (prod).

I have also copied the SAP profil of that prod to to this new server.

Pls run at OS level :

sappfpar check pf=<instance profile name>

try reduce the no. of WP.

Pls past dev_disp and dev_w0

Hello Djam,

at first i have to say, that we are only guessing, because without seeing this problem live on your system it is really hard to analyze.

But this information is very interesting:

> When I start SAP, i have some WP running and others die with the error i posted.

> When I restart a died WP individually, it starts ok.

I am not very familiar with Oracle on Windows, but i have simulated a similar situation by doing some test on AIX / Linux. Please take a look at this documentation:

http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/network.102/b14213/listener.htm#sthref783

> QUEUESIZE

> Use the parameter QUEUESIZE to specify the number of concurrent connection requests that the listener can accept on a TCP/IP or IPC listening endpoint (protocol address).

While starting SAP many work processes try to establish a connection at the same time - maybe your listener is not able to handle this many requests under windows (take a look at the default values).

Try to set QUEUESIZE to a higher value (your work processes * 2) and start your sap again.

Sapnote #131561 is confirming my guess ( For some platforms (e.g. NT/Windows 2000), this is set to the small number of 5.)

Regards

Stefan

I have 32 WP on the central instance.

I have set quesize parameter to 60.

Then i have set SQLNET.INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT to 120 in listner.ora and sqlnet.ora

Sap still start with half of processes running. (better than before)

when a died process is restarted individually, it runs ok.

I post dev_disp and dev_w0 (this one started ok) as requested.

I also post the dev_w11 that failed in error but started ok when restarted in sm51

Hello Djam,

  • Have you restarted your listener after you have set the queuesize to 60?

  • Can you run 32 parallel "R3trans -d" to simulate the same problem? (in a .bat file)

  • Can you please post your listener.ora?

Regards

Hello Stephan,

Thank you for your help.

Yes, i have restarted the listner.

I tried as suggested to lunch a .bat file with 30 R3trans -d.

I'am not sure the 30 "R3trans -d" were lunch at the same time or one after the other. I just created a file with 30 "R3trans -d".

But i belive that each command was executed one after the other without waiting the end of the previous.
