Friends,

Can you pls help me on following issue -

1. Can I use any MRP Strategy for Inventory management of materials where production is not involved?

The scenario is of purchasing and maintaining inventory for project execution. Thematerials are of following type -

A. Bulk Issue Stock Materials

B. Stock Materials

C. Long lead time materials

If yes then which MRP strategy should be relevant for this scenario?

Is it possible to use any other MRP type apart from VB, VM and PD?

Our intension is to use MRP functionality as much as possible for inventory management and stock optimization.

Thanks in advance and warm regards

Yes, you can use MRP without any problem. You first need to know how your requirements will be created. From Orders (PM/PS), manual reservations etc. Then you will be able to define the planning procedure that will trigger your procurement proposal. The strategy to be used can only be defined by your business needs, just for you to understand, requirements in production are triggered when exploding BOM of the finished products. In your particular case, requirements are to be triggered from manual reservations or PM/PS orders. Another way is to define a forecast, based on past consumption history, reorder points and safety stock.

Your procurement type, in this case will be external, therefore, proposals will be directed to external procurement process.

Hi

Thanks for your reply. In my case all the requirements will be generated from the PM/PS reservations. This will be planned and external procurement proposals will be generated. I Know I can use MRP Type PD for this and also can use VB or VM for certain scenarios.

But can I use any other MRP type suitable to this scenario?

Also can I use any MRP strategy to tackle this scenario?

Pls provide your input on this.

Thanks and warm regards
