Product Length

Hi,

I am trying to create a CVC with a material but I am getting an error saying

"Length of material number exceeds current setting".

My BW object has CHAR 40

and in SPRO "Specify Output Format of Product Number" is set to 18.

The length of the material is also 18 (000000000001234567)

Is there any other setting that I need to maintain?

Thanks.

In SPRO

APO>SCP>DP>basic Settings> BIW> BIW>General BW Settings --> Set material number display

There is a field called material no. length. I think that needs to change to 40 for you.

Please test out first before setting it up in the system.

Hi Srinivas,

Thanks for the reply. I have been to

SPRO

APO>SCP>DP>basic Settings>

but from here I don't have the option BIW

All I have are:

Data Warehousing Workbench

Permitted Special Characters in BW

Maintain Fiscal Year Variants

Define Storage Buckets Profile

S&DP Administration

Define Planning Buckets Profile

Define Planning Book

Define Macros

Define Distribution Functions

Maintain Customer-Specific Settings for Outlier Correction

Consumption

Demand Combination

Maintain Manual Transport Link for DP/SNP

Are talking about changing the characteristic object used for material? Already I see the length in RSD1 as 40. More over the data is in infocube. It is the problem after that with the creation of CVCs.

Not sure which version you are on.

The business information warehouse option exists between the following two:

Permitted Special Characters in BW

Maintain Fiscal Year Variants

You can alternatively go through transaction OMSL

Thanks. I am V5.0

I still could not find the BIW but tried OMSL. When I try to change the material number length to 40, I am getting the error message

"The length of the material number must not exceed 18 characters

Message no. BMG222"

I appreciate your time.

i think you have that characterisitic assigned in your planning area as a product characteristic.

does it have 40 char in the cube? check the SID to get the internal format.

if you have 40 characteristic in cube but want only 18 its possible it has leaving zeros... when you generate CVC from cube try truncating it take only 18

Thanks Harish.

It shows length 40 in SID table.

Here is my situation in detail:

I have a characteristic ZMATL defined in APO-BW as a CHAR with length 40 and has a conversion routine PRODU with length 18.

Any number of any length less than 18 entered is converted into a 18 digit number by adding leading zeros.

Now my settings in OMSL is 18

and in product length is also 18 in SPRO.

As per the rule, if it is 18 or less, the system should create a CVC without any problem. As it has a conversion exit, it is converting any number to an 18 digit number.

When I create a CVC with this material, I get a message saying that

"Length of material number exceeds current setting"

As I have the PRODU, it is converting any number to that 18 digit.

When I look at the SID table /BIC/SZMATL, I see all the numbers in length 40.

Can I have the info object in BW but truncate that to 18 when it comes to APO for CVC creation?

Thanks.

I'm opening a new post with the same thing. It is going too long.

ZMATL is 40 in cube and 18 in MPOS so its possible you will have this issue

maybe you can change your cube to 40 or write some code to truncate the MPOS creation to 18

also check if you have in MC62 used the flag on the checkbox for check characteristic value. If yes - uncheck it

BTW,better let this thread go long than trying to explain again ...
