Link Sigfox Backend to SAP cloud

Dear all,

I would like to link my sensor that is registered on the Sigfox cloud backend system to that of my SAP Cloud Platform in NEO environment. According to the SAP documentation, I will need to set up the SAP gateway Edge.

Does anyone know if it is also possible to connect the Sigfox backend with the SAP IoT service (in Neo) without using this gateway? All architectural drawings on the IoT solution keep showing the gateway edge as a requirement in order to receive data from the sigfox backend.

Hopefully anyone can help.

Thanks in advance.

    Hello Danny,

in IoT Service (NEO) it is not possible to directly connect the Sigfox backend. Let me quote a colleague on this:

There is no "native" support for an http callback from the
Sigfox backend (as its payload is not just plain compatible) - but there can be
an Neo App (similar to the MQTT client in the example that forwards what it
receives to Neo IoT Services) to bridge that gap and ingest to IoT Neo. The
user will have to make (create an HTTP endpoint that the Sigfox backend sends
to) and deploy that "bridging part".

Please also have a look at the IoT Starter Kit: https://github.com/SAP/iot-starterkit/tree/master/neo/examples/java/com.sap.iot.starterkit.mqtt.ingest

Apart from this, IoT Service (CF) offers more options, as you may have seen in the documentation you refer to for SAP gateway Edge.

Hope that helps and kind regards,

    Kay

      Hi Kay,

Thank you very much for shining a light on this matter. Not what I was hoping for, but at least I know now that I can strike this option through.

Maybe you can also answer my following question. Is it possible to set up an MQTT broker and connect it with the Neo IoT service? Or do I still require the Gateway Edge in between (again this seems to be required setup according to the SAP documentation)?

And second, is it possible to run the SAP Gateway Edge on e.g. a Raspberry Pi?

Hopefully you can also help me with these questions, thanks in advance anyways.

      Best regards,
      Danny
