What is the limit of tenant databases on single HANA server?

Hi,

I have latest version of HANA database (1.00.122.02). My database is multitenant.
I have 7 databases. One is SYSTEMDB, and six normal tenants.
Yesterday I have created new, 8th tenant database to put there new NetWeaver server.

Problem:

When I start this new 8th tenant database the second tenant database is being automatically shut down (first is SYSTEMDB).
When I shut down this new 8th tenant database, second tenant will automatically go up.

Conclusion:

I have reached the limit of tenant databases that can run in the same time on my server.

Questions:

Is there a way to increase number of tenant databases that can run on the same time?

Is there an official information that says that 7 databases is max for single HANA server?

I was searching and I could not find answers to those question.

8. How many tenant databases can be created per instance?

The main limitation is the resources required for each tenant database (CPU, Memory). Further there is a limitation with regards to the available ports 3XX40 until 3XX99, hence by default with each instance you could have a maximum of 20 tenant databases.

To overcome this limitation see next question.

9. Is it possible to overcome this limitation of 20 tenants per instance in case there is sufficent resources available?

Yes, we can increase this number by reserving the port numbers of further instances.

We do this by configuring the property global.ini -- [multidb] -- reserved_instance_numbers

The default value of this property is 0. If you change the value to 1, the port numbers of one further instance are available (for example, 30040-30199 if the first instance is 00). If you change it to 2, the port numbers of two further instances are available (for example, 30040-30299 if the first instance is 00).

Thus we are reserving additional ports to one instance.

Hi,

SAP note 2101244 point 9, 10 may help. Please check whether the limit parameter was set.
