If you don't maintain you will get an error message. Just try doing this in your test server., you will understand what happens ?

J_1IEXCINV is the number range object for Excise invoice number

Every year this has to be maintained. Transaction SNRO

Enter the object name and maintain

Select insert year and maintain the number range for 2008
