Work environment

Hi,

I have mostly been working in USA and Singapore, and only recently took a full time job in India.

These are the things I did not like:

Have to work 2 to 3 Saturdays a month.

Lunch break is only 30 minutes.

I have to become confirmed, until then, notice period is only one day.

Pressure from management to attend company picnic on Sunday.

Provide no training on the software (SAP) that I am working with.

Employees stand up whenever management visits.

Is this typical of Indian companies?

I am optimistic about India's economy, but I am disappointed by management lack of respect for employees.

I have only been with this company 4 months, and am wondering if I should look for another job in India. Perhaps I should stay and get experience with SAP before trying to go abroad.

Any suggestions?

Al Lal

Did you sign for the military ? If not you should, you will get more liberty !

Seriously, I don't know the work culture in India. Is this common in every company or only in your company ?

    Regards,

I have over 1 year of experience working as a consultant with Hyperion Essbase - an OLAP tool - in USA. I have 9 months of experience in working with Hyperion Essbase in Singapore.

My expertize with Hyperion Essbase is out of date, and I am not familiar with the latest version. I need to develop new skills to make myself marketable. I am picking up ABAP, and am also planning to work on Business Information Warehouse.

I did very little work for 5 years because of health problems, and had to turn down several job offers in India in consulting, because I was not fit for travel. My health is better, but I can only work a desk job.

      Any suggestion?
