Transportation in MDM

Former Member

Hi All,

I have scenario which requires 3 systems.

Development system, Quality System & Production system.

I have created my data model, validations, assignments, workflow in Development system & it also has some records.

If I want to bring the entire repository in Development system to other systems the options are:

1. Archive the repository, save it & open it in other 2 systems. The issue here is we get records also along with Data model & validations when I do this.

2. Export XML schema & then use it in other 2 systems. The issue here is we get only data model but not validations.

Is there any other option to bring data into 2 other systems.

Regards,

Pramod

Hi Pramod,

please read this How To Guide:

https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/20751e78-f81f-2a10-228f-eb3a1642...

It it a guide how to transport data between MDM Systems.

If you are using MDM 5.5 SP06 you will be able to transport Validations, Expressions etc. For earlier versions you must do it manually.

Dear Experts,

Can you confirm the use of Archive / Export options discussed in this message ? Thanks. Siva K.

Dear Jitesh,

Hope you can provide a simple definition of the Transport options.

Is the following statements right:

1. Archive Repository creates an a2a file in the server with data.

This can be used when a complete Repository has to be recreated with data. Unarchive repository is the process to use the a2a file. This option will not provide the option to review and approve changes.

2. Archive Repository - schema only ( using options feature).

This option also creates an a2a file in the server without data. This can be used when a complete Repository has to be recreated without data. Unarchive repository is the process to use the a2a file. This option will not provide the option to review and approve changes. This option is good for recreating the Development Repository in Assurance or Production servers. Test data in Dev would not be moved to Assurance/ production.

3. Export Schema.

This option creates a XML file in the user's PC . This can be used to migrate changes from one system to another. For Example : This would be a good /only option when changes have to be done for issues found after we have gone to production . We get the option to review the changes and Approve/ Reject individual changes.

Once you approve/agree with above definitions , I would like to review separately about Validations/ assignments transporting under each of the above situations.

Thanks for your valuable answers in SDN forums.

Hi Pramod,

I would like to suggest you the following steps to meet your requirement:

1. Archieve the repository with option Schema Only.

2. Export the Schema of the main repository using Export Repository Schema option.

3. UnArchieve the Repository on the desired server.

4. Right click on the repository and select Import Repository Schema option and select the schema of the main repository that you have exported.

5. It will show you the comparison table of the two repositories and you can select the things you want into the new repository.

i.e Validations,Assignments etc

Note : Export Rewpository Schema option genereates the Schema Migration File i.e. XML and not the XSD.So it also contains the data of the repository.

Hi,

If you need all the Records ,Workflows,Validations to be transported, Archive your repository which is in DEV and unarchive it.By doing this all your objects will be copied.

Thanks,

Hi Pramod,

While archiving and unarchiving your repository from one system you have the option of

- Archiving only the schema

- Archiving schema with data.

You need to tick mark the check box while archiving if you wish to import only the structure.

I am not sure will this way of archiving also archive the Validations & Assignment without archiving the data.

Or else another option would be.Import the entire repository structure with data and then delete the data from the new system repository.

Hope it helpd

HI pramod..

There is no such option as such in current version..I ll suggest u to duplicate the repositiry and delete the data in Data Manager and now archive the duplicate repository.. so that u ll get the datamodel with validations...

Hi Pramod,

I is very easy to export data also, just use the option in data manager to exprot data; use it for each and every file. Then Import manager and its functionalities and import data into other systems.

Cherry.
