promotion management after upgrade to business objects from 4.1 to 4.2 is very slow
It takes 4 minutes to load the page and once it loads it keeps being slow to promote....this is only happening with promotion management and other activities are working well....
From the suggestions in forums, I have this as following:
Xms512m -Xmx8g -XX:MaxPermSize=256m
Hello Denis Konovalav, yes we have two node with each 24 GB RAM Installed, with processor 2.20 GHZ and 2.19 GHZ (2 processors) it is sized properly and it was working fine before, it just is slow after upgrade.

it is not sized properly, you have more ram allocated to APS's than you have physically available, forcing OS to swap memory to disk.
is this a cluster or a single machine?
It is a cluster environment, and I Created APS for promotion service separately on both nodes.
how many APS's you have per host?
Node1: APS for Auditing, APS for Core, APS for Data Access, Aps for LCM, APS .webi, Web applicationcontainer server, APS for promotion management service
Node2:
APS for Auditing, APS for Core, APS for Data Access, Aps for LCM, APS .webi, Web applicationcontainer server, APS for promotion management service
How much memory on each host?
APS.Promotion management for both nodes:
-Xms512m -Xmx8g -XX:MaxPermSize=256m
Aps.Auditing for both nodes:
-Xms512m -Xmx512m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m
APS.CORE for both nodes:
-Xms512m -Xmx1g -XX:MaxPermSize=256m
APS.Data Access for both nodes:
-Xms512m -Xmx1536m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -XX
APS.LCM for both nodes:
-Xms512m -Xmx8g -XX:MaxPermSize=256m
APS.WEBI
-Xms512m -Xmx4g -XX:MaxPermSize=256m
APS.Web applicationcontainer server
-Xms512m -Xmx2g
Did upgrade reset platform search settings?
No it doesn't seem to have reset the platform search settings.
What webapp server are you using ?
tomcat8
when you run end to end trace - where is time being spent ?
we don't have end to end tracing currently, I am working on getting this. we have to go to another vendor we own to be able to contact sap or read its KBA's...

Hi mkoneru
Recently I did an update exactly the same as yours, in this update I had no problems with Promotion Manager, however when I created web report scheduling I had a memory error. (OutOfMemory).
We did several attempts to setup the services and nothing solved.
The solution we had was: Go back a backup with version 4.1, Install version 4.2 on a new machine with a new installation, and then migrate the contents.
After that we had no problem anymore
If you can, perform a side-by-side installation.

1. Maxpermsize is no longer used by Java 8, which is used in BI4.2
Should I Delete the MaxPerm size option in command line parameters for the adaptive processive server that is defined with only promotion management service?
2. What version of 4.2 are you using ?
SAP Business Objects BI Platform 4.2 sp4 update from SAP Business Objects 4.1 sp9 update.
3. What and how exactly was upgraded, what else changed in the system ?
It was upgraded with the update installation client SAP has sent us. Other than update to newest version, nothing changed.
4. Where did you set this new java options, exactly ?
Created Adaptive Processing Server just for promotion management Service, that has Promotion management service and Tracelog Service only. Then I changed the command parameter line from
-Xms512m -Xmx2g -XX:MaxPermSize=256m
-Xms512m -Xmx8g -XX:MaxPermSize=256m
Thank You for your help!

For Maxperm - see this KBA 2297866 - Tomcat8 (Java 😎 no longer uses Permsize and MaxPermsize
1.) What version of 4.2 are you using ?
4.2 support pack 4 update2.) . What and how exactly was upgraded, what else changed in the system ?
This is upgraded from 4.1 sp9 update to 4.2 sp4 update, nothing else changed.
3.) Where did you set this new java options, exactly ?
The new java setting options is set after creating a APS server just for promotion management service and the services chosen were
promotion management service, Tracelog service...and in the command line I changed from
Xms512m -Xmx2g -XX:MaxPermSize=256m to
Xms512m -Xmx8g -XX:MaxPermSize=256m

Please try to be more specific in your questions, so that we can understand your situation better. We don't know your environment, or it architecture.
