How can I track connection attempts to HANA server?

When connecting to a HANA server (HANA Express Edition 2 in a VM) through HANA Client libraries, I always get the error "authentication failed" (same for Python, Java and Excel; see

To find out where and why the request is declined, I want to observe or backtrack all connection attempts.

Is there an appropriate log file or a trace I need to activate for checking incoming connection attempts? What could be the component that is responsible for this particular error?

The last sub-chapter of chapter 3.8 in the SAP HANA Trouble-Shooting Guide should help you to set up the required trace.

Thanks for the hint. Looks promising. However, I cannot set the trace level of indexserver/authentication to "DEBUG" because it does not show up in the component list (only "NAMESERVER") even if I check "Show All Components".

Edit: Anyway, I can set "authentication" to DEBUG for all services in the database trace configuration. That#s what I needed here. But please also mind my updated question in which now contains an error log.
