CHARM with manual transport control in SE09 / STMS

Former Member

Hello,

I have been asked to implement CHARM in the following way:

Everything of CHARM should be used, exception: the releasing and import of transports should not be done automatically via maintenance cycles but very oldschool manually via SE09 / STMS.

I am wondering if this is possible and if this does not lead to inconsistencies with the statuses of the change requests / corrections that are created within CHARM.

Thank you very much for your help!

Regards,

Marc

Hi Marc,

Oldschool release and import with ChaRM is possible if you open the Status Switches of your CTS Project.

This you can do from Solution Manager (TA /TMWFLOW/PROJ) or in the satellite system (TA SPRO_ADMIN).

Of course, like you state yourself, the chance on inconsistencies is much higher and the beauty of ChaRM is gone.

Releasing and Importing as part of ChaRM also gives the advantage that Basis involvement is almost nihil and so Transport Management is not the responsability any more of the Basis team, who can focus now on real Basis tasks.

Cheers,

Hi Roel,

thank a lot for your quick reply.

So if I turn the switches on, I will be able to create a normal correction with its transport requests and realease / import those in the satellite systems.

After that will I be able to manually update the status of the normal correction in Solution Manager?

Do you think this will work without problems this way?

Thank you, will reward points.

Hi Marc,

As long as you create the TRs out of SolMan (and not directly in the satellite system), I don't see any issue.

Just watch out which switches you open. Because if you open the one 'Requests can be created', anyone can assign a TR created in the satellite system to this CTS project. How the ChaRM process will react if this happens, I have no clue.

You will be able to update manually the status in SolMan, but of course you'll always have to use the actions to do this.

If you will use the standard SAP delivered actions, the system will always try to execute the action related (i.e. release/import TR). It can be that in some cases the system will complain. To solve this, you can always customize these actions and get rid of these actions being executed.

Hope this helps.
