Career shift from ABAP

Hi all,

I am an ABAPer withone and half years of experience.

I have worked on ALV Reports,BDC's,Enhancements,BADI's,Modulepool,Smartform.

1)Can somebody guide me if its appropriate to move to some Netweaver component as i will be starting form zero in that component.

2)If yes then which Netweaver component is appropriate and are there enough projects in the market(India) as it makes no sense in learning and then siting on the bench.

3)Or its appropriate to learn some functional module like SD or CRM.

Hi Sandeep,

In every organization we require ERP now-a-days. So, SAP R/3 has provided it's own programming language ABAP for implementing all the applications for various functional modules in this Enterprise. For Example we are having SD,MM and FI. This SD module is the first introduced in this ERP. Then later we have MM, FI , PP, and so on. Each of the functional area has it's own importance.

Today SAP plays a very prominent role in doing the business for a particular enterprise. For every module we are provided with neccesary tcodes where we can implement all types of applications.

So, You are very lucky to be into the SAP. So, Being as a technical developer ( ABAPER ) you should be more precise not only developing all the applications but also proficient knowledge in functional areas. So, learning all the business scenarios is also equally important for ABAPER.

In real time experiences, we have to analyse the business requirement of the client. So, we should be proficient in all the functional flows SD, MM, FI. Not only these but also others like PP, AM, SRM , so on.

SAP NetWeaver is SAP's integrated technology platform and is the technical foundation for all SAP applications.SAP NetWeaver is marketed as a service-oriented application and integration platform. SAP NetWeaver provides the development and runtime environment for SAP applications and can be used for custom development and integration with other applications and systems. SAP NetWeaver is built using open standards and industry de facto standards and can be extended with, and interoperate with, technologies such as Microsoft .NET, Sun Java EE, and IBM WebSphere.

So, You can learn this tool along with ABAP in where you can find more oppurtunities outside. So, as it integrates all the technologies so we can easily have the requirement of tranfering the data from one technology to another one. Today, we are having more requirements on these data exchange processes.

So, you may have more oppurtunities.
