S/4 hana hardware requirement

Hi

I'm planning to install an S/4hana demo system. What is the minimum hardware requiremnt?

I know S/4 hana application and HANA DB can be installed together on a single box. What is the h/w requirement in this scenario?

If we add frontend server to the above box, how much additional resources required?

How about gateway and webdispatcher? Are they required? If so, can they be clubbed in the above box?

Thanks

Vinod

You can combine the front-end server (gateway) together with the S4 backend.

Based on my experience it's best to deploy it with at least 256 GB of memory. You can give it a try with 128, but this may end up in Out Of Memory exceptions in HANA - this highly depends on the system usage.

Thank you Bartosz.

I've started with 64GB (both front and backend on single box). The installation finished without any issues but OOM issues came up during SPS update. These were resolved by disabling delta merge temporarily and also by taking a restart of application and DB whenever an OOM error occurred. (I had to restart it three times during SPS update)

OOM erros again cameup during client copies and this time the above tricks didn't help. I had to increase the RAM to 128GB. client copy finished without any issue.

I've seen that max RAM utilization was 108GB. So in this scenario (Sandbox)we can say 128GB is minimum RAM required and if you're going to deploy lot of Fiori apps or use it for productive use, much more.

Vinod.

Hello,

Thanks for letting us know! It confirms my assumption about minimum memory required.

If my answer helped you, please close the question and mark the correct answer.

Best regards

Hello,

if you only like to test and do some developing WITHOUT using a lot of data and complex analyses then you can go with less then 128GB RAM.

I#m running a S4HANA now since some months, just for developing and i have the VM configured with 12cores (old Intel CPU) and 134GB RAM, while i started with 128GB RAM (physically, not inside the VM) at all in the beginning.

[root@HANA]# free -h total used free shared buff/cache availableMem: 134G 41G 83G 5,5G 8,6G 86G
Swap: 20G 0B 20G

mostly the VM uses below 60GB RAM.

I#m sure you can use S4HANA with less memory, but that depends heavily on the worlkload and be prepared to have a stucked VM. Therefore you need to have actual VM snapshots and to be used in recovery. Two snapshots a day and HANA-backup-log-files on a dedicated external machine are mandatory in my case.

But, depending on the workload and job to be done, that gives you a possible way to power on a S4HANA system when you don't have the correct environment.

Hello All,

I want to install SAP HANA IDES Server (SAP HANA DB 2.0 & S/4 HANA Application).

What are the hardware requirements and the Software requirements (S/W to be downloaded from SAP Marketplace...) ?

Please suggest/reply..?
