Hello Geeks ,

Good wishes .

This Question always haunts me . What is the precise point difference between system copy and client copy. please don't perceive with refresh i am very specific about copy here .

we will assume this scenario so that to make my Q ease .

source SID : ABC (clients : 100,200,300)

target SID : DEF (clients : 400,500,600)

Suppose i have a system and it has 3 clients namely 100,200,300 with SID as ABC .

in client copy whatever the method i adapt to . like source 300 is copied to 400 of target DEF.

it will replace all the data of 400 client of DEF with 300 data of ABC.

this is clear .

but in a system copy , what it will do ? will it copy all the clients of ABC to DEF ?

please answer me this and will reward points for most sensible answer . thanks in advance .

Client copy (Local, Remote, Export / Import) will copy only client specific data from source system to the target system. One example is what you have said: it will replace all the data of 400 client of DEF with 300 data of ABC. To do client copy you need the source and target systems on the same level (components) as the table structures are very important.

>> but in a system copy , what it will do ? will it copy all the clients of ABC to DEF ?

The short answer is YES. During system copy (Backup / Restore, Export/ Import) the existing target system will be gone. In fact I would say that the source system will replace the target system. You will ONLY have clients from the source system on the target system after a system copy, which is not the case with client copy wherein only a specific amount of data is copied from ABC to DEF without touching other clients.

Hello Saravana,

A SAP System Copy is a variant of a system migration where the source and target operating and database management systems are the same. In principle, you export all the data from your source system, install your target system and import the export from your source system into your target system. For this you use the SAP Software Provisioning Manager (SUM). As a result, your target system contains exactly the same clients with exactly the same numbers as your source systems.
