Same Database Instance for Solution Manager and SAP ERP

Hello,

I'm setting up a test environment (no producitve environment) and i want to install the Solution Manager 4.0 and SAP ERP 2005 on the same host. I already now that it should be possible to install these two SAP Systems on the same machine.

My question is if i should use the same database instance - I've already installed the solution manager as a central system - for both systems or should (can) i install the SAP ERP System as a new central system on the same host.

I've read in the installation guide that if i want to install "multiple components in one datebase" i just have to use the same DBSID as for the first system (solution manager).

Another reason why i'm asking is that there will be another SAP ERP System on a different machine. The first ERP system should be the development landscapce and the second one will be the quality landscape, but there will be only one solution manager (but this has to share the host with a ERP system because i only have two (fast) machines).

Another question, does having a different database instance (DBSID) mean installing the whole database more than one time? Or is the installed database software used to create a new instance inside the existing installation? I don't really understand if database instance mean the whole installation of (for example) a maxdb.

Are there any recommendations how to realize this regarding the databases? Could there be any other problems expect the performance (is just for testing).

Thanks a lot,

Martin

Hi Martin,

I have done a similiar proposal to our senior sap consultant and he sad it should be possible.

I am going for a test environment with 8 sap netweavers in one oracle DB and one solution manager system aside on its own oracle DB.

Unfortunatly it is not yet setup.

There is an "older" quick-link service.sap.com/mcod

But google on "sap" and "installation" and "mcod"

kind regards.
