Hi!
in order to analyse the performance problems within SAP Solution Manager I would like to get more information about:
How collects SAP Solution Manager the alert data from CEN? (case: SOLMAN=CEN)
(what is the exact way CEN --> SOLMAN and which techniques will be used?: RFC, other)
How can I check which data transfer mechanism will be used for the transfer the alert information from satellite systems to CEN?
a) the data will be transferred in push-mode
b) the data will be transferred in pull-mode
Any helpful information will be appreciated!
P.S. I need some theoretical/background information, not the configuration steps
regards
Thom
Thom, you are posting this in many forums and duplicating it within a forum as well.
Is there a reason for this?

Thom,
I replied to another of your messages with the following
1. Specify CEN as a destination and pull it in from there just like any other system I believe
2. CCMS will pull data from systems as required by collecting mechanisms.... via the agent if it is up, otherwise via the RFC destination. Alerts however are pushed via the agent.
Solman gets information in a variety of ways depending on exactly what you are talking about. For example a lot of data is collected in sattelite systems in CPH (transaction RZ23N) and then collected vie RFC SM59 destination in a pull.
SMD for example will poll every 15 seconds for J2EE data and persist that directly in SOL CPH and then report in BW. It also uses dsr statistics collected from the CCMS agents in a pull that is stored and viewable in ST03G STATTRACE and persisted and displayed in BW
its all a question of what data exactly you want
For alert data it gets complicated as it depends on setup. The alert data can be configured for CCMS and that is then sent out from the agent when it sees the alert to CEN where it is dealt with depending on the method you define for autoreaction.
Also for example availability is a local check and so it is not the agent but the local CCMS via client 000 that does the alerting and it depoends on the autoreaction.
I have not used the Solman own alerting, I know it is inferior as in it is not ALM and I believe it reacts based on its collection which is every 5 minutes normally in a pull way. This causes more traffic than straight CCMS.
ALM alerting is very good and it is also possible for example in XI it is the documented way to set up CCMS in XI and ALM there then points to an ALM server (often SOL or CEN) which will then deal with the alert as per transaction ALRTCATDEF
