Creating Inspection Lot at both batch and material document level on purchase order receipt

I am trying to fulfil a scenario where the user needs to record results for two sets of inspection characteristics for materials received on a purchase order. One set of characteristics are to be completed on every delivery of material (material document level) the others are completed for every batch received. Each Pur. Order has multiple batches received against it, and each batch can be split over multiple receipts.

The batch level characteristics are also subject to dynamic modification i.e they are analysed 1 in 10 batches etc.

My trouble is that for the '01' inspection type there can be only one value for the control of the inspection lot. Therefore inspection lots are created at one level, and cannot be either document or batch level depending on the operation or characteristic.

My thought was to have two different purchase order receipt triggered inspection types, one setup at batch level and the other material document. However I am not sure if this is possible or if just the standard 01 type would be used in the scenario where both applied.

Does anyone have any experience of this type of scenario or any ideas on how to resolve?

I was hoping someone else might respond to you on this Mark cause I don't think I have anything for you.

I can only think of one possible way and it would involve some development.

Create your inspection plans and in all your plans used for incoming materials, (or at least the ones following this business process), you would include a reference operation set. The reference operation would include the tests for the delivery. Set these up as optional MICS.

Then I think you would need to implement the user exit at lot creation. In here you would need to check if this was the first inspection lot created for a given material document. If so, then the development edits the lot and enters the description of "perform this testing". As soon as you put in any activity on that characteristic, it should then become a required characteristic to complete.

If the lot being created is not the first lot, then nothing is done.

This is the only thing I can think of to try.
