Hi,

What is the difference between Template and Table in Smartforms?

The Template contains a fixed number of rows and columns, where the output is fixed.

The Table can have variable number of rows

Example:

pls go through this example for tables

hi,

A template as the name suggests allows to print data in a particular format. It contains placeholders for printing the data. The data is ultimately printed using Text nodes. The main features of a Template are:

Tabular layout for printing data (tabs in SAP Script)

Static - number of rows & columns are known before runtime and are fixed.

The structure of the row of the template is defined using a Line type. The height of a line and number of columns that will occur in the line are defined using the Line type. The rows that will use the specified structure of line is also specified. The width of the line type (sum of width of all cells in line type) should be the same as the total width of the template.

The Line Type can be built graphically using the Table Painter. The pattern of the grid to be drawn around the template (if required) can also be selected.

A Table is used to print recurring data (where the number of records is not known and can continue across pages) in a tabular format.

The Table uses the concept of Line Type to present data in a tabular format – just like in Template. However the rows for which the Line Type is used and the height of each row need not be specified. An option to allow No page break is also available – this option if set protects the contents of the row and the entire row is printed on one page.

Events Tab

Header & Footer at section and/or page level

If set, event nodes automatically added under Table node.

Table exteds dynamically.

Template is fixed in size.

template is Output of a table containing static data

these are the Possible direct successors-All except window, page, table,

and template nodes

Table - Output of a table containing application

data and these are the Possible direct successors-as with template node

Template is used for proper allignment of data which table is used for displaying multiple data.

We can say Template is for static data and Table is for dynamic data.

Suppose we have a requirement in which we have to allign the customer address in such a way as shown below:-

Name- Krishna Company- WIPRO Location- Chennai

Desig- S/W Native - Mumbai

Then for proper allighnment we can create a template and split that into 3 columns and 2 rows and create text elements for each cell display a proper allighned data at the output.

When we include a template inside a loop it gives the same property as a table.

When we have mutiple data which is to be extended to the next page like when we display all employee details in a company we use table.

Table has 3 sections , HEADER, ITEM ,FOOTER

The header secntion will be executed once and it will loop at the item level. at the end footer will be executed.
