MII 12.1 Ramp-up Inquiry

Former Member
0 Kudos

The current plan for MII 12.1 is to enter ramp-up in Q4 2008. However, we expect that we will enter ramp-up on only 1-2 platforms, and then release additional platforms every month during ramp-up.

SO - the question is, which operating systems do we pick first? If you are serious about entering the ramp-up program for 12.1, please let me know what OS and DB combination you would be looking to implement. We will attempt to prioritize the platforms based on customers entering ramp-up. By the end of ramp-up, all platforms will be released.

Feel free to ask additional questions, I would be happy to answer them.

Hello John,

Can you tell us what the plan for release MII 12.1 rollout is?

For an active project we need the multiple Y-axis. Is there already a date or can we do some ramp-up test with this item?

We are very interested in a few updates:

§ Multiple Y-Axis (per pen, automatic or specified, with vertical lables)

§ Rotated text on X-Axis (auto rotate or specified angle)

Is there also a possibility to rotate pictures? We want set a picture in a PDF but rotated 90 deg. so we can fill the whole page with that picture.

Regards

Arno

Hi John-

You mention in your last post about a 12.1 Ramp-up Presentation. Is another one scheduled as I would like to attend. Thanks.

If we get enough requests, we could do a group one.

Otherwise, we will entertain requests from customers who are serious ramp-up candidates for one on one reviews.

Hi John,

do you think it would be possible to do a WebEx session? I'd even get up at 4am my time for that!

Ok - if you are interested in entering Ramp-up for 12.1, now is the time to get serious about planning. MII 12.1 is scheduled to enter ramp-up in December 2008.

If you have not had the chance to see the What's New in 12.1 presentation, we can try to set up another session.

Quick highlights:

Runtime UI Enhancements

Each existing applet has been upgraded with a new version. There has been no legacy functionality deprecated. New Features include:

Full Accessibility has been added to each applet

Validation of Input Parameters used in script functions calls to Applets

New, consistent floor plans for applets

Applets now have new areas of information/functionality in order to support Accessibility and other SAP UI standards. These new options can be turned on/off via configuration parameters in the Display Template. These new features include:

· Title Area support - Allows titles to be added to the Applet (not just chart applets)

· Message Area support - Allows one line messages to be displayed onscreen (i.e Last Refresh time, Warning message, etc.)

· Updated Application ToolBar - Supports various actions through buttons and dropdown menus

· Updated Time Control

All Toolbar actions can also be accessed via the context menu (Right-Click) in the event the Application toolbar is hidden.

User locale and time zone information is now supported for date time formatting. A new Display Template parameter called "User Locale Format" allows the JRE to use the locale of the client application to render the date and times. If this option is checked it will override the Date Format specified in the template. The local time zone is also shown by default in this mode.

New date/time format strings have been also added which include the timezone - This is available in the DateFormat dropdown.

Logging is now configurable PER applet and will display debug information to the Java Console.

Auto Refresh Rate can be specified during runtime.

Printing of the applets uses the underlying Print System of the Java runtime client. It will now print the applet as displayed on the screen. Grids are printed minus any toolbars shown on the screen, (so color contexting can be printed, for example).

Chart Object specific updates

§ Rotated text on X-Axis (auto rotate or specified angle)

§ Multiple Y-Axis (per pen, automatic or specified, with vertical lables)

§ Show Values on Bars, Pie Slices, and Markers

§ Color Context for Bars, Pie Slices, and Markers

§ Configurable line thickness for line charts

§ Configurable line style per pen

SPC Chart Object specific updates

§ Configurable line thickness configurable for line charts

§ Optional automatic chart border color change on rule violations

Grid Object specific updates

Sort by column without re-querying data. Sorting is done on the client side without any roundtrips to the server. It is a tri-state mode: Ascending, Descending, Natural order from original data query

Freeze columns

Columns can be re-arranged and resized on the fly

Row height can be adjusted by the user

Additional New Feature Sets for SAP MII 12.1

BLS

§ Runtime Engine Performance Enhancements

§ Shared Memory variables across transactions (read/write)

§ u201CIncludeu201D action block for call outs to Java, BLS Transactions, that is upgrade safe

§ Full WSDL Support for transactions

§ Ability to look at list of running transactions, and ability to stop any running transaction

§ Asynchronous transaction call capability option versus synchronous only

Content Management

§ DTR Integration for project AND file based versioning plus conflict resolution

§ Transport Management through NWDI

Developer Productivity Enhancements

§ Legacy u201Cwizardu201D productivity tool capabilities added to Workbench for HTML content development

§ Usability enhancements to link editor, file management

§ Content Management services built into Workbench

§ Several New Actions

§ Increased Language Support

Security Enhancements for 12.1

§ You will be able to turn off u201CURLu201D queries for non-developers and restrict users to query templates. The query template server and mode cannot be overridden in this case.

§ A credential store with password encryption is now available for use in all objects that required a user name and password for configuration. The aliased credential can then be used to configure: 1. MII Servers (Tag, SQL, etc.); 2. SAP Servers (JCo, WAS, BC); 3. BLS Actions (JCo, Web Services, E-Mail, etc.)

New Features for Enhanced A2A and ERP Integration Scenarios

§ Asynchronous capabilities added to the Web service and HTTP Post actions

§ JMS interface actions

§ JMS interface to xMII Services for A2A communication

§ Quality of Service Enhancements: Support for qRFC and tRFC interfaces through JCo

§ Improved transaction u201Croutingu201D based on simple rules and input document

§ New support for event and event messages from connectivity services

§ MII will be deployed on NetWeaver CE, JDK 1.5 based

Being in the ramp-up program for 12.0 does not automatically mean you are in the program for 12.1. You have to re-enter the 12.1 ramp-up program.

You can go right from 11.5 to 12.1.

12.1 Highlights:

New Applets with loads of cool new features

BLS performance updates (10x or more)

Content Management (check-in check-out, versioning, rollback, deployment, etc.)

New productivity tools

Security enhancements (credential and connection object stores, encrypted, for use in design time and run time)

QOS enhancements

JMS integration in BLS

Lots of other goodies

Hi John,

sounds very interesting. As we have lots of complaints about performance, it would be also interesting to see how much faster BLS are. 10x faster means 12.1 is 10x faster than 12.0 ?

Are there some more infos (Screenshots, Guides, Documentation about the new Content Management...) to have a look before deciding to jump into ramp-up?

Curious Regards

Hi John,

Looking forward to the new xMII 12.1 version. Would also like to see more standard templates developed that can be used for Inbound/Oubound deliveries and Replication of RF transactions.

We are using Windows with SQL Db.

Hi John,

We are definately interested in joining the ramp-up. Do customers need to be on 12.0 or will you support a migration from 11.5 to 12.1?

All of our servers are on Wintel/SQL Server 2005.

Cheers,

Nick

If we were on the ramp-up for 12.0 are we automatically on the ramp-up for 12.1 or do we have to re-apply?

Windows & My SQL - 64 Bit

I guess this might be the preferred combination..

For ramp-up, I'd prefer to run in a virtual machine so Linux (32-bit) and Oracle are my preferences.

Will MII 12.1 require NW 7.1? If so, I guess we have to go with 64-bit Linux since 7.1 doesn't seem to be released on 32-bit Linux as yet.

Hi John,

Administration is easier for Windows, but please for 64bit. I would preferred to use MaxDB or Oracle.

I would also like to know the features that SAP MII 12.1 will bring.

Hi John,

we are using xMII 12.0.2 successfully on AIX and Oracle 10g.

Like Rick said it would be interesting to know what features are new in 12.1.

John,

In my experience so far , customers tend to lean more towards a Windows & MS SQL combination because of the User friendliness it offers.

In my opinion the mindset is - with majority of the IT workforce concentrated @ corporate they want to keep the complexity levels @ the plants as low as possible.

John - do you have a summary of features/enhancements in 12.1 that you can provide?

Thanks,

Hi John,

good to hear that the timeframes aren't too far into the future 😄

Our standard platform for SAP (ERP, BW, XI, etc.) is AIX and Oracle. Having said that, Windows and Oracle may be a more appropriate combination for xMII instances running on site since Windows server admin skills are a little easier to come by...
