Hi everyone,

I have a question about IoT enablement. Is the iot application enablement only working on Cloud Foundry? or Can we use also in Amazon or SAP Cloud Platform as IAAS?

All documents is based on Cloud Foundry. However, I could not see that it is "only" executed on Cloud Foundry. Do you have any information about it?

Hi Mehmet,

IoT Application Enablement is currently only offered on SAP Cloud Platform CF. You can purchase it as SaaS or PaaS.

Hello @Jan Reichert first of all, thank you for answer.

Please could you explain what is the difference SaaS and PaaS on Iot Application Enablement. For which situation we should choose SaaS or PaaS for Iot Application Enablement. Could you give detailed information.

Hi,

In the PaaS approach you'd have a Cloud Foundry account alongside your AE tenant. This way you can easily extend the functionality of AE using the design- and runtime power of Cloud Foundry.

If you purchase a SaaS tenant you can still access the AE APIs from your applications (eg. a UI5 app), but you don't get any computing power.

... and in both cases it is possible to call our apis from anywhere else - e.g. from SAP Cloud Platform Neo but also from any other server or client on the Internet - either application to application (with a user context) or server to server (without a user context).

Of course, if you deploy an app in SAP Cloud Platform Cloud Foundry then this app will run "closer" to the apis and will benefit in regards of e.g. performance from this closeness.
