SAP BW 7.5 - BO4.2 - Hierarchy Shows Short Text

We have recently completed a BO4.2 upgrade (from 4.1) and BW 7.5 upgrade (from 7.4). One of these upgrades has resulted in our Article Hierarchy now only showing short text instead of the configured key & text.

Our infoObjects in the hierarchy do not have short text maintained, as the descriptions are generally too long, so now the hierarchy just shows keys, which are completely useless to the user.

In the example above, I have manually maintained the Short Text for ZAHDEPT=1032 so that it has a text value of Groceries. The medium & long text for that value is already maintained as GROCERIES

  • The infoObject's (ZAHDEPT) DISPLAY option is set as Medium-length text
  • The main infoObject (0MATERIAL) has display configured as Key and Text, with the Text Output Format set to Standard

No matter what these values are set to, the display of the hierarchy in the WebI report as well as in the list of values on the variable selection screen still shows the short text.

Any ideas on how I can get our medium / long texts to display again ?

What properties are in the BEx Query Designer?

  1. Create bex query with variable on hierarchy in Bex query designer
  2. For the hierarchy object display properties choose Disply As > Text and Meduim-length text for Text view"

The query is set to :

- Display As : Key and Text

- Text output format : Standard

As soon as I have access to our dev systems again, I will try changing that to Medium instead of Standard.

As a workaround, I am de-activating the Short Text option from each of the infoObjects in the hierarchy, and that seems to be working.
