using samaccountname together with userprincipalname

Hi,

we are using the userprincipalname (user at domain.com) to uniquely identify users on the UME. Is there a way howver, to have users logon with just the username and to have the portal add the at_domain.com? This prevents a lot of typo's......

Note that samaccountname cannot be used
