Sporadic SAP Gateway requests with very slow response time - High roll-in or enqueue time

Hi,

We're having performance issue with sporadic SAP Gateway requests.

A request that normally takes 1-2 seconds, can suddenly take 80 seconds or more.

When looking at the performance information in transaction STAD for such a request that has total response time of 80 seconds, we can see that the processing time is only 1-2 seconds, but the rest of the time is either:

- Spent in Enqueue time (ie. waiting for a lock from the enqueue server)

- or spent in Roll (in+wait) time

The system setup is using a hub architecture with RFC connection with SNC to the ERP backend system. Multiple services are affected by this, all of them are using Odatav2.

It appears that the requests are all waiting for some kind of resources from the application server and therefore the response time goes through the roof. What kind of troubleshooting or performance tuning can be done in such scenarios?

    try to do a performance/payload trace using transaction /n/iwfnd/traces.

    You can restrict this to certain users and services.

    • Traces have been activated for our service, but will that give us any information when the problem is enqueue time?
      I am asking because my understanding was that the enqueue time (at the Gateway hub) is a wait time before the request is processed. I am ready to adjust my understanding :-)
