Unable to use import from Excel functionality when a warehouse has been set to inactive.

The import fails with the following message:

Warehouse "LOGIC" is not active; activate warehouse or use an active warehouse - Row Number 1

I still need to make the warehouse active, in order for it to work, any idea how update item master data without activating inactive warehouse?

Hi Arman,

The answer can be found in the error message: "or use an active warehouse". This means use an active warehouse in the import file.

Alternatively:

  1. make a list of all inactive warehouses
  2. activate all inactive warehouses
  3. perform the import
  4. deactivate all warehouses on the list that you made during step 1

Hi,

Is there a work around for this? There will be risk of people forgetting to deactivate the warehouse.

Thanks,

Arman

Hi Arman,

The most economic way is to create a protocol for importing items (for example the one I described in my answer), and to only allow select users to perform this task, and preferably only according to a specific schedule. This way you would minimize the risk to a level where mistakes can be fixed manually with warehouse transfers and such.

If your business scenario requires you to perform these imports frequently enough (say more than once a week), you should consider creating (or have your SAP Partner create) a small addon to perform the protocol. Such an addon could even be made to run autonomously on a schedule, only requiring your users to save an import file in a specified folder for example.

Johan
