I need to use the Business Objects Applet in order to modify report, but I am getting the error "...please make sure you have installed a Java virtual machine". I have Java SE Development Kit 8 Update 51 and Java Update 151 installed.

What version of BOBJ are you connecting to? What browser are you using? I think Chrome has issues with the Java applet, but other browsers do not. You could also use the HTML Webi editor - just go to the Web Intelligence section of Preferences in BI Launchpad then, under Modify, select "HTML". Depending on the version of BOBJ, it might be worded differently, but that's what it is in 4.2 SP4.

The HTML designer doesn't have all of the features of the java designer, but it has most of them. The most notable of what it doesn't have is the ability to create and edit alerts. If you're not using alerts, you should have no problems working with the report in the HTML designer.

Hi. Thank you for your reply. I am using BO 4.1 SP5 and IE 11. With the HTML Webi editor, I am not able to add a query on an uploaded spreadsheet, but can only select a query from a Universe:

BO 4.1 SP5 is a couple of years old - it came out in late 2014 or early 2015. Even though Java 8 is supported starting with SP3, I would make sure that you're using the 32-bit java runtime and possibly install the Java 7 runtime side-by-side with Java 8, then use the 32-bit version of IE to see whether that works.

Thank you for your reply Dell. It is an older version, you are right. Not sure when our company is going to upgrade it, hopefully next year. So I am using the 32 bit java runtime and now have Java 7 and Java 8 installed side-by-side. I noticed from my processes that my IE is running with 32 bit. It is still not working. Luke

Are you checking in internet explorer? install Java 7 32 bit and try. or you can use Webi Rich client.

Make sure the bitness of IE matches Java (either both are 32 bit or both are 64 bit).
