update status profile

Hi gurus,

There is a need to update our current status profile. Some of the user statuses are no longer needed while new ones should be added. Can I simply rename some of the user statuses together with their codes or do you suggest creating a totally new status profile? If I execute one of these options, will we still be able to access the historical transactions with these old user statuses?
