Cross-docking with SAP ByDesign?

FX

Hello,

Is it possible to do cross-docking in an interco and 3PL scenario with SAP ByDesign?

Let me explain the current process:

  1. Sales admin creates a SalesOrder1 in COMPANY1, where customer is CUSTOMER and Ship-To Address is CUSTOMER
  2. COMPANY1 does not have the stock and chooses External Fulfilment to COMPANY2
  3. This creates a PurchaseRequest1 and a PurchaseOrder1 in COMPANY1
  4. This creates a SalesOrder2 in COMPANY2, where customer is COMPANY1 and Ship-To Address is CUSTOMER
  5. SalesOrder2 is using Internal Fulfillment from 3PL logistics site SITE2, and a 3PLRequest2 is sent to SITE2, with Ship-To Address to CUSTOMER.
  6. In SITE2, they prepare and ship the Goods and create an OutboundDelivery2 that go straight to CUSTOMER.

The problems is that the goods go directly from SITE2 to CUSTOMER, when they could require a cross-docking in SITE1 of COMPANY1. This could be required for tax purposes, or freight forwarder change, or consolidation of transport from COMPANY1 to COMPANY2.

The process we would require is the following:

  4. This creates a SalesOrder2 in COMPANY2, where customer is COMPANY1 and Ship-To Address is SITE1
  5. SalesOrder2 is using Internal Fulfillment from 3PL logistics site SITE2, and a 3PLRequest2 is sent to SITE2, with Ship-To Address to SITE1.
  6. In SITE2, they prepare and ship the Goods and create an OutboundDelivery2 that go straight to SITE1.
  7. In SITE1, they receive the InboundDeliveryNotification1 to receive the goods from SITE2, along with a 3PLRequest1 to ship the Goods to CUSTOMER.
  8. In SITE1, they receive the Goods and create an InboundDelivery1.
  9. In SITE1, they prepare and ship the Goods and create an OutboundDelivery1 that go straight to CUSTOMER.

Is there any way to do this in Standard with SAP ByDesign?

Thanks,

FX

Hi FX,

If there is a cross docking at your company 1, why do we have to use the TPOP scenario at all. Raise an inter-company PO, when there is a demand, get the product delivered to Company 1 from company 2 and then use the normal Sales process to change your freight provider or any other relevant activity.

The moment the stock is received at company 1, the stock has to be received the material ledgers will have to be updated and the cost etc needs to be calculated and invoicing needs to be performed, which is not expected in the TPOP scenario.

What is the business need that you have to have the stock docked at company 1. I believe the scenarios you mentioned can be handled by avoiding TPOP as I mentioned. Hope this helps.
