B1 2005A SP01 Client Install Fails

Former Member

I'm installing the client from the B1_SHR folder on our server, but every time I get to the third step of the process where it tries to connect to the server, it doesn't accept any username and password, including a valid sa username and password. I have tried this on multiple machines, running XP & Vista, all with the exact same results. Any ideas why this won't work?

Hi,

Please try to set up an ODBC connection first. If this works then the installations should be ok, if not then there is a connections problem whihc requires further investigation (Anti Virus/Names Pipes/TCPIP/Firewall) Firewall is a common cause especially since windows has its own version.

Hope this help,

Paul

I can connect to the database via ODBC, but the installation still doesn't work.

Hi,

Please disable the firewall, AV and try again.

ODBC means you can technically connect from the client to the SQL server but there is some other sw blocking it.

Check the firewall and AV on the server also.

I deactivated everything and it is still the same problem. It is really frustrating not being able to install B1 on multiple of our client computers.

I don't know if it makes a difference, but clients that are already installed work fine. It is just the installation process that is trying to access the database via the sa password that causes the problem.

Hi Derek,

In this case I would advise you to log a support ticket to SAP.

A qualified specialist will assist you. You should refer to this thread.

Paul

Is there any way for me to open a ticket directly as a customer? It's just a pain to have to go through my partner for everything when they are barely even involved with any of my SAP implementations.

Could you confirm if you are using SQL Server 2005 and if so have you installed the SQL Native client on the PC you are trying to install SBO client on?

SAP Client will only install and connect to the SBO Server after the SQL Server Native client is installed

Download the same from

Yes I am using SQL Server 2005. I do have the native client installed on both computers that I'm trying to connect.

Thanks for your offer Suda. I really don't know what else to ask for. I've installed the server and client software dozens of times and never had any issues like this before, so I don't quite know what has changed.

I'm on B1 2005A SP01 PL43 running on Windows Small Business Server 2003, and I've tried the install on both XP Home, Professional and Vista machines, all of which have had B1 successfully installed and running in this setup before.

Can you look at the params.ini file in your \b1_shr\Clients\Client_Setup folder?

What is the value for "Type"? Now I've had consultants tell me that if its 4, and they get the same issue you have, then they change it to 1, and try the install again. If it prompts for a username and password, put in your SA username and password.

Other times its been a case of when they manually copy the installer folder to the local machine and run it with no problems there.

I had same problem with 2005B as well, but I am able to install the B1 client after installing MSSQL 2000/2005 locally.

Hi Suda,

The solution you provided is working fine inside our company but it is not the case at our customer site. I am trying to disable the firewalls and antiviruses and check.

But whats the point if we disable them there will be no protection. Paul can you please help us on this.

Davinder,

Your solution almost worked for me. Changing that parameter to "1" instead of "4" caused the installation to go smoothly, not even asking for the sa username and password. The problem was that when I loaded the program, it didn't show any of my databases and wouldn't let me change any of the server information, leaving me completely unable to access anything. So now I have B1 installed, but I can't connect to any databases.

The problem looks like it has to do with the server type. Normally 1 (SQL Server) and 5 (SQL Server 2005) appear in the initial login screen, but now the server type just says 4, and it won't let me change it. Is there another text file that I can edit that will bring this screen back to normal?

I lied. I just selected the server type and it popped up the credentials window. I selected the "Use Trusted Connection" box and it logged me on immediately. Thanks Davinder!!

All,

I found this issue many times before, and the solution is very simple:

- replace client installation source on the B1_SHR with the original client installation source in the SAP B1 Installation CD (Packages\Client\).

- install B1 client as usual.

- set connection to database server.

Hope it's work for you

Hi Derek,

We are also facing the similar problem. Can any SAP Professional see our problem and help us out.

We also get a message saying. " the setup has failed to automatically connect to the server" and even if we give the correct database username and password it doesnt accept.
