PM Registering and tracking movements of equipments

Dear PM Guru's,

I'm working on an interesting project, called Moveable Fixed Assets or MFA.
The user wants to have an easy way to register the request to move one or more equipment from one functional location to another. Once the request is made, someone needs to verify/approve the request. When the request is approved, the equipment must be uninstalled from the current functional location and installed in the new functional location, this will be the tracking part.

I was wondering what would be the best practice to register the request to move an equipment. A PM Notification? A Work Order? A PM Notification and afterwards group them in a Work Order?

Please share your thoughts on how to deal with this in a Best Practice way.

Kind Regards,

Gunther De la Motte

Gunther

That sounds like a perfectly reasonable and simple solution.

Thanks Pete for your reply.

For ordering new equipment we use SRM, were the user creates a new Shopping Cart, with a custom build approval flow.
Once approved the Shopping Cart is converted to a PR and afterwards a PO.

A new equipment is generated during the Shopping Cart process, by creating an asset.

For the movement of existing equipment we are now thinking to create a new PM notification, with indeed a new notification type.
We are also playing with the user status, in order to make a distinction between the different type of movements. However we have to create 1 PM notification per equipment. Once all PM notifications are created, we are looking to group them in 1 Work Order and build a new workflow on the WO.

Does this sound logical to you?

You could use an external request system to manage these changes. This will depend on whether you have such a system already in place within your company.

Alternatively, you could create a new notification type in SAP to allow you to manage the process.
