Auto generated cycle counts

Hi All,

I have the following scenario in my company:

I need to automate the cycle counting for a specific plant:

I have a group of materials that needs to have 12 counts a year and I have another group of materials that will be counted 4 days a week Monday to Thursday and just a small amount of materials a day.

I know that I need to go to tcode: OMCO and create an indicator with no of physical inventory = 12 and interval 30 for my first scenario but I don’t know how I will create another indicator for the second scenario of 4 days a week Monday to Thursday for a certain amount of materials only and spread over the whole year.

What are the next steps after I create the indicators (OMCO) and update the material master with the new indicators to auto generate the cycle counting?

We don't use WM.

Thanks in advance for any input.

1) No. of physical count we entering in the transaction OMCO is for fiscal year. Please refer my second comment, I have given the calculation.

52 weeks / year

No. of counts / Week = 4, then No. of Physical count / Year = 209, System will determine the interval time as 1.

2) There is a program which calculates the next planned date based on the interval defined in the transaction OMCO. For details, refer SAP note 518418 - FAQ: Cycle Counting

3) Please have a look at the selection criteria, option to have selected materials for cycle count.

Hi Rosh,

Sorry for the taking so long for my reply but my business has changed the scenarios;

Scenario 1:

178 materials:

100 Materials indicator F - No of phys. Inv. 52 and interval 7

60 Materials indicator A - No of phys. Inv. 12 and interval 21

18 Materials indicator E - No of phys. Inv. 1 and interval 364

I have set up all the materials with the indicator accordingly.

My question is:

Once I have different indicators for the same plant, how should I automate the cycle counting?

  • 1)Should I create one job running the RM071CN1 for each group of indicators, as they have different intervals?

Scenario 2:

Counted by storage bins? Is this possible without using WM?

For your second scenario:

52 weeks / year

No. of counts / Week = 4, then No. of Physical count / Year = 209, System will determine the interval time as 1.

Material wise count:

Yes, you can select and subject only required materials for cycle counting, then execute the program in the background as a periodic job will count the selected materials. Adding restriction that material counted on one day should not be counted on next day is not required since the system will not carry out cycle count on two sucessive dys..

Hi Rosh,

Thanks again for your help. Here are my steps as I will start working on the configuration tomorrow:

  • 1)OMCO – to create a new cycle indicator as:
  • no. of physical count =4 and the intervals as 3
  • 2)Set up all the materials of my second scenario with the new indicator created above.
  • 3)Se38 to create a variant for the program "RM07ICN1" with all the materials that need to be included on the count, plant, storage location. Define the Max. No. of Items.
  • 4)SM36 to create a batch job for the variant created above. This job will run in background daily.

Two questions I still have:

  • 1)Where I will add the following restriction? Adding restriction that material counted on one day should not be counted on next day is not required since the system will not carry out cycle count on two sucessive dys..
  • 2)What is going to be the Planned Count Date From on my variant for the program "RM07ICN1"? Do I need to define it on my variant attribute fields: GIDAT and GBDAT.
  • 3)Where I can define/select the number of materials counted per day?

I will start working on it and let you know.

Many thanks

Use different cycle count indicator for your second scenario with no. of physical count =4 and the intervals as 3. Add this cycle count indicator in the material master and run the program "RM07ICN1" as background job.

Rosh, thank you for your reply.

I will create a new cycle count indicator for my second scenario with no. of physical count =4 and the intervals as 3, then running the

the program "RM07ICN1" as background job the materials will be counted Monday to Thursday every week for all the materials with this indicator.

My plant has resources restriction and they don't want all the materials counted Monday to Thursday. They want only the materials that will be physical counted per day. The materials counted on Monday will not be counted again on Tuesday and

They have 14.000 materials to be counted at least once Monday to Thursday spread over the year. I don't know if my requirement is clear.

e.g: Monday 100 materials, Tuesday 150 materials, Wednesday 200 materials until I have all the materials under this indicator counted in that year. They want small amounts of materials per day to avoid deletion of the remaining materials not physical counted and need to be deleted from the document created.

They don't want extra work to delete the remaining materials not physical counted from the document created.
