[BPC Excel] A dimension information file cannot be created

Former Member

Hello,

My BPC for Excel used to work fine. However, today, when I try to open it, I got the following error when it is in the process of "Creating file on server...."

A dimension information file cannot be created. There may be a network or security issue. Error message: ? ZIP ??

After pressing the OK button in the error message. The action pane still comes out. However, when I click on any of the dimension links, the BPC for Excel simply hangs and gives no response.

My two other coworkers can work fine with their BPC for Excel. So I'm quite sure it's the problem with my PC instead with the BPC server.

Anyone knows how to solve this?

Thank you!

Sunny

Ok. So it seems that your problem is not related to appset it seems that something is going wrong with one of COM+ component of server.

I suggest to open server manager

Server- Reset Login Credentials

you have to check if you have all three users completed and to input the password again for each user and after that press update.

Try again the backup after you did this process.

This issue happen for all appset from your environment?

I mean can you replicate the problem even for Apshell appset?

If for Apshell is working fine that's means the problem it is with your appset.

If the appshel is not working that's means that something was broken into installation of server.

ok. Normally you should reeceive also the information in what application this dimension can not be created.

You have to follow the steps:

1. into server webfolders - your appset - application with problem for dimensions (or even better for all application from your appset)

- private publication - delete the folder with your name of your user.

2. If you can not delete that folder then you have a problem with security of that folder. You have to assign owner and access of your user to have full access related to that folder.

Another option will be to check if have any firewall or antivirus opent in your computer.

Please also check if you are using a proxy for internet explorer connection to internet. If yes then disable that proxy for a test and see if you still have that problem.

What version of excel do you have?

Hi Sorin,

We've deleted everything in the private publication folder but the problem was still there.

BTW, we didn't change any settings on the anti-viurs tools and the BPC for Excel used to work properly.

We are using Excel 2003.

If you have the same problem even after the reboot of your pc that's means you had a network comunication problem during the download of one of dimensions.

To solve the problem after the login with webexcel you have to go into eTools - client information and to clear all local information.

Reconnect after that to the server should solve your problem.
