Transaction log, select query in Sybase ASE 15.7

Is it possible that complex select query can hold transaction log in Sybase ASE 15.7 (master.dbo.syslogshold). I was told than comxplex select query (with groupings, joins, etc) can create tables in tempdb and hold transaction log. Is there any documentation on that point?
