oracle upgrade read only tablespace

upgrading from oracle 11204 to 12102

sap manual says to select option 'set user tablespace to read only during upgrade'

this has caused upgrade to fail as the dbua could not connect to psaptemp during the upgrade as it was read only

what is the impact of not selecting the above option to avoid another failure?

Hi David,

Are you using sap netweaver on oracle?

Then it wouled be better to refer to guide to use dbua instead of any manual upgrade.

Best regards,

James

I'll answer my own question

the solution is in note 659946

If you open a database in read-only mode (for example, a standby database within structure validation using VALIDATE STRUCTURE or an export - see Note 817253), error ORA-01682 ("read-only DB cannot allocate temporary space in tablespace") may occur when you access a DMTS/P-PSAPTEMP (for example, within sortings). To avoid the problem, change to LMTS/T.

perhaps it should be highlighted in the manual or scripts to check the config of the psaptemp tablespace before starting with the dbua as it will fail.

the psaptemp is dmts/p and is a user tablespace which must be something that happened over the years , so I will need to change type and owner before I upgrade
