AS2 & OFTPS

Hi All,

Could any one please clarify

1.The differnces between AS2 & OFTPS adapters and in which scenarios we prefer OFTPS compared to AS2

2.If we are using AS2 sender adapter to pick data two different mail boxes on different servers, Is there a possibility to pick data from two mail boxes from one sender adapter. I'm sure that we can pick data from two or three mail boxes from same server.

Do we need to configure two sender adapters if they are on two different servers.

Cheers,

Smith

Thanks Kunaal & Swarup,

We intend to use AS2 adapter itself, but just thought of getting some clear idea about OFTP (which is also provided by Seeburger).

I beleive we need to use two different AS2 adapters to transmit the data from different servers.

Cheers,

Smith

Hi,

1.The differnces between AS2 & OFTPS adapters and in which scenarios we prefer OFTPS compared to AS2

-->AS2 are the third party adapters provided by Seeburger which is used to integrate EDI scenarios.

Seeburger EDI Adapter provides an EDI solution on internet via HTTP or AS2 to replace the expensive VAN. It provides some pre-built mappings for IDOC to ANSI X12(810,850,855,856 etc.,) and Idoc to EDIFACT(ORDERS,DESADV,INVOIC etc.,) and has the ability to build your own. These pre-defined mappings transform the IDOC-XML to EDI-XML format.

In addition, Seeburger provides adapters like AS2,FTP(EDI specific) and so on to route these EDI messages to external EDI Partners.

This is not possible with OFTPS. OFTPS is restircted for for FTP services only. I am not sure about OFTPS as have never come across it. Its something like EDI specific FTP adapter rarely used. for FTP services you could use AS2 as well as OFTPS also.

But as far as I know AS2 adapter is extensively used.

Here I think you could use the same adapter to read data from multiple mail boxes but I don't think we could do this for different servers. As the server details are provided as the fixed one we can't chage it at runtime.

Please go through the following links which clearly explains what you want and it also helps you in understanding the same in depth:

Hi poul

OFTP ADAPTER:

The OFTP Adapter is embedded in SAP XI. It enables communication between SAP XI and integrated OFTP partners via ODETTE File Transfer Protocol. Partners may be connected either via TCP/IP or ISDN, or optionally X.31.

Data is sent directly to and received from the SAP XI system via OFTP. The data is centrally controlled and managed in SAP XI, and the logging and monitoring also occur via SAP XI.

The OFTP Adapter is based on the SAP XI Adapter Framework 3.0 and on the SUN JCA 1.0 specification.

1.The SEEBURGER OFTP Adapter is responsible for transmitting files according to the Odette File Transfer Protocol.

2.This protocol is commonly used in Business-to-Business scenarios; especially in the automotive industry.

3.The ODETTE File Transfer Protocol (OFTP) was defined by the European automotive industry in 1986 to extend the traditional file-transfer capabilities of FTP to support Just In Time operations.

4.OFTP supports end-to-end acknowledgments, binding of EDIFACT messages and runs on top of ISDN connections Odette Stands for Organization for Data Exchange by Tele Transmission in Europe.

AS2 ADAPTER:

Why AS2 (Point-to-Point Connections) is preferred over VAN?

Point-to-Point Connections:

By using Point-to-Point connections between client and server, we have to provide and configure a direct dial-in connection to establish a link to every single trading partner.

Secure Addresses the issues of privacy, integrity, authentication and non-repudiation for B2B e-commerce over the open Internet. Increased Reliability due to the usage of secure protocols, guaranteed delivery, and encryption decryption techniques

Low-cost as compared to the VAN based transactions

Highly accessible as connectivity to Internet is no more a luxury

Supports high bandwidth communications

Technically mature as the specifications are being continually refined based on the feedback from industry usage

The purpose of the EDIINT AS2 (EDI over Internet) protocol is to allow the secure exchange of EDI data over the public Internet utilizing HTTP as the transport protocol.

AS2 uses two different Message types: the actual payload message and the Message Disposition Notification (MDN).

Actual payload message:

The payload message encapsulates an EDI file so that it can be transmitted via HTTP. Optionally the payload messages are compressed, encrypted or digitally signed by the sender.

MDN

If the sender wants to be sure that the message has been transferred without modifications and that the recipient has been able to decompress, or decrypt the message, the sender must request an MDN from the recipient
