Patching portal from 7.31 to 7.5 or staying on 7.31

Hi

Very soon, I am going to patch our portal.

Current version is SAP NW 7.3 EHP1, SP11. When running MOPZ I can go for EHP or SP-stacks.

If I go for EHP I will end up in NW 7.5, SP5.

If I go for SP-stacks I will end up with SAP NW 7.3 EHP1, SP18.

In note 2187353 it says 7.5 sp5 is equivalent with SAP EHP1 NW 7.3 SP18. so they should be the same.

My question would be:

If we do NOT realy want to change or add new functionality but just do not want to get to far behind in release, is there any good reason for going for 7.5?

  1. Would there more or maybe be fewer problems when running SUM
  2. Are there more prerequisites there must be for filled when going for 7.5
  3. Anything else I should be aware off?

Good ideas, documentation or reference to good notes will be appreciated.

Hi Stig,

NW 7.5 introduces the 1.8 JDK, so this is something to keep in mind if considering the upgrade (applications would need migrating from the 1.6 JDK in 7.31). Apart from that a fully patched NW7.31 will have mostly the same features.

For more information please refer to the following blog: http://scn.sap.com/community/enterprise-portal/migration-and-upgrade/blog/2016/08/10/why-should-i-up...

NW7.5 does have more functionality, particularly if you are going to be integrating FLP@EP. You can see SAP Note 2031108 for a feature matrix per release.

Best regards,

Nick
