Batch where used list

Hi,

What are all config setting reqd to work batch where used list?

When i executing the mb56 for a batch managed matl getting following error

"Bottom-up expansion is not possible for the selected batch "

and

"Top-up expansion is not possible for the selected batch"

Pl reply wht is missing

i activated the batch used list in config
