How to extend the Fiori Launchpad or create new custom fiori launchpad on portal

Hi,

We have a specific requirement for Fiori launchpad which we are using on SAP Portal.

Current standard SAP fiori launchpad is either not sufficient or suitable for the requirements.

We would like to have different size tiles, some contents to be shown directly on the Fiori Lauchpad etc..

So, we were thinking to develop custom UI5 application. But the same time, thought if it is possible to extend standard Fiori Launchpad to add our customization on it to have our flavor in the launchpad.

Do we have even an option to customize & extend existing standard fiori lauchpad on portal? If so, it would be great if you can direct me in that direction. I tried to search every where and could not find it.

If not, then what are the best options to read the Portal navigation & authorization data in the custom UI5 application so that based on the access I can show different stuff as well as links/tabs/tiles on the top?

Thank you in advance.

Launchpad is just a launchpad, nothing more. I understand that many clients who have implemented SAP Enterprise Portal in the past they have used to some its good features. So they are complaining about loosing these nice features when moving to Fiori Launchpad (and they don't want to use the cloud portal at all!).

But it is not necessarily to happen like this!

We've come up with an idea to transform the standard Fiori Launchapd into a portal, into a Fiori Portal. This means we add some of the most used features to Fiori Launchpad in the form of custom SAPUI5 apps, plugins and new design. So with Fiori Portal you can have news and document management, multi level navigation hierarchy, new logon page, company specific custom design, a SAP Gate to start all SAP system clients with windows SAPGUI via SingleSignOn, etc.

This is an idea to where you can evolve your Fiori Launchapd!

You can check this concept at fioriportal.com.

Hi Bhavik,

FLP@EP/fiori Framework Page uses the Fiori Launchpad Runtime. You can use custom plugin with FLP@EP to make changes you may like to occur at runtime. For more information refer to SAP Help:

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the help.sap.com link. Those are very generic. Do you happened to have specific examples of how to use those? Or have you come across such examples?

Thanks,

Hello,

For using different sizes of tiles wait the next release of Fiori Launchpad (not yet launched) and you will be able to change the colour of tiles... 🙂

Why the launchpad do not fit to you requirements?

Hi Josesh,

That is good news. Will that allow to change the size of the tiles, have option to display different contents on the tile etc??

Our requirement is to have Portal to be company's home page which shows some news, some other info, some contents which gets updated on periodic basis etc.. Then we would need some navigation links on top which will take us to different applications.

I was thinking to do it through Web page composer to achieve some of the stuff. I can run that and make home page which runs through AJAX framework. That would not be pretty for the mobile usage.

So, we are thinking to develop custom UI5 application or customize Fiori Launchpad so that we can add whatever we would like to. (Not sure how much flexibility we get even if it is possible.)

If you have any better suggestions, you can throw those as well.

Thanks,

Bhavik

Hello,

First look at page 22 for the launchpad Lab preview from the SAP Fiori Roadmap 2017.

Then for your requirement, I will not sugest you to go with Launchpad. It is not a portal, the launchpad is a workarea. If you decide to use it, you will have to much restrictions.

Today, the way SAP think for having a portal is to use the SAP Cloud Portal. With this, you will be able to deal with a portal content (more flexible to add article and manage content) + SAP Fiori Launchpad.

By the way, Web Page composer is an old way to manage content in SAP Portal and no more updated. It will not a wise decision to go with it.

Joseph

Hi Irfan,

The one you have mentioned talks about the SAP Cloud Platform service. Unfrotunately, we are not in the cloud but we are using on premise SAP Portal.

Are there any options for on premise portal?
