Is it possible to make the SU01 email address field mandatory?

Hi all

I'm wondering if it's possible to make the email address field in SU01 required (mandatory) when you create/edit a user?

I know you can use transaction variants/screen variants using SHD0 and SHDS but the email address doesn't show as one of the fields that you change edit. Only 'address' is shown and even then you can only change it's visibility - the 'required' checkbox is greyed out.

Is it possible to do this in some other way perhaps?

    Hi Ross,

Assuming you have some sort of LDAP-accessible directory service in your organization -- such as Microsoft Active Directory -- my suggestion would be to automate the population of the email address field in the user master with the value pulled from the directory, rather than requiring it to be manually typed in. This is not only more efficient, but should avoid typical problems associated with typographical errors, etc.

Without going into lots of detail, the basic process involves setting up the interface via transaction LDAP (you create an "LDAP Connector" and an "LDAP Server," and in the LDAP Server you create the mapping between SAP fields and AD fields), and then you can schedule a job that calls transaction RSLDAPSYNC_USER to perform the synchronization. If you look up documentation on these transactions I think you'll find the details you need to put this into motion.

Thanks Matt, good response but it seems that's not a route they want to go down at the moment; they'd prefer to keep the user management at the ABAP level/with CUA.

Most of the users already have an email address and those that don't we have a few ideas about scripting a way to get them updated; we just wondered if it were possible to enforce future new user creations to require the email address so none get missed. Perhaps it's not possible, at least, with standard SAP?
