Cloud for Customer Integration with Third Party Front End System using Process Integration

What is considered most pragmatic and effective when Integrating cloud for customer and a Microsoft third party application. There is the option of using the standard Soap services provided by the cloud for customer platform. Could this integration be done through Process Integration (i.e defining two endpoints for incoming data from c4c) ? What is the applicability of such integration process and what is considered as best practice
