Hi,

we would like to test an installation on iSeries as a development system. I've got a 8286-41A model to use... S814. We would like to install a system for 10 max developper for an ECC 6.08. For you experience... how many memory? how many cpu power in CPW? how may disk space? Where can I find requisites for ECC 6.08?

Please... don't reply as "ASK to IBM",,, I've already it ;-)

Thank you.

Regards.

Ganimede,

it would certainly help to know more about the expected workload (in SAPS). Do you know the SAP Quick Sizer tool?

SAP ECC 6.0 EHP8 is based on SAP NetWeaver 7.5. For that, the installation guide ("Installation of SAP Systems Based on the Application Server ABAP of SAP NetWeaver 7.1 to 7.5 on IBM i : IBM DB2 for i") is documenting a minimum of 5 GB for an ABAP only installation. There is no minimum CPU documented, you can easily start with one CPU or a fraction of it.

Internally, our smallest logical partitions are running with 0.4 CPU entitlement and 10 GB of main storage.

Kind regards, Christian Bartels.

of course, but at the moment I don't know the number of invoices, user per component, etc.

10 GB DASD? or ram memory?

Thank you.

>10 GB DASD? or ram memory?

10 GB of main storage refers to RAM (memory).

You can start with a very small partition to install your system, but when the workload is growing, your developers may not be happy with the performance. Fortunately the Power architecture and IBM i are allowing to dynamically allocate resources when needed.

The documentation "Installation of SAP Systems Based on the Application Server ABAP of SAP NetWeaver 7.1 to 7.5 on IBM i : IBM DB2 for i" has some formula to calculate the minimum disk size. You can probably start with 200 GB of free disk storage. However, that may turn out not to be enough in case of future system growth.

Make sure that you pay attention to the journal receivers (comparable to transaction logs in other databases): These grow quickly simply by using the system. SAP Note 1449715 has some information about recommended settings.

Kind regards, Christian Bartels.
