Using Tables in Web Page Composer is really no FUN

Hello,

I was really surprised to find nothing in the forum about tables in the advanced paragraph editor in WPC. For me working with the tool is very annoying.

- You can set only once the form of your table, It´s not posible to add new columns or raws to an existing table.

- You can not set a fixed size for a column. The size depends on the content´s size and moves dynamically with it.

- There are a lot of bugs: You can not choose the color white or transparent for the background of the table´s cells. It results in black

What solution did you find to go along with these problems?

How can you expand an existing table in WPC?

Any idea how long to wait til SAP fixes this problems?

Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

Thomas

I tend to create and edit content in MS Word, than copy and paste the content into the WYSIWYG editor. Not the best solution as some formatting is lost, but a work around that works for me.

    I am having problems, too.

I was very disappointed when it came out. For smaller tables it may be ok.

What i also don't like are the predefined colours.

I would like to enter own RGB values.

I will try the MS Word Workaround. Sounds quite good.

    Regards

We use the MS WOrd workaround, but I have discovered a problem with it.

When you paste from Word, the mso* classes get inserted into the "source", so these will override you CSS files. One effect I have seen is that a user cannot resize the text with the browser settings (if the font size is too small for them, for example).

This is the only complaint I have had so far with the workaround.

For basic text (no tables), a workaround for this problem is to paste from Word into Notepad, then paste into WPC. Then you can bold, italic, etc. (We are still on SPS13, so we do not have the advanced editor.)

      Thomas -

I am trying to use the tinyMCE editor, but have not been successful yet. I am getting an error in the paragraph element saying that it is an unknown "type". I have followed the document (I think!), but Imust be missing something.

      I'll keep you posted...

Any news on the mentioned issues? We are using SP15 of the WPC and still have e.g. the color bug (white cell background results in black). Has anyone told SAP about that?

    Regards,

    Michael

    Yes,

in an OSS-Call I have described all problem issues in terms of Advanced Paragraph and Tables in WPC.

However, after evaluating the issues they respondend to me that because of the complexity of the problems SAP has planned to solve these issues in SPS18.

That means for this year we cannot expect any improvement in WPC 😔

    Greets

If anyone out there has FrontPage or Dreamweaver, create your table in that, and then paste the finished product into the WPC.
