Weighted Average / Weighted Moving Average - source of weights question

Former Member

Hi,

I had a question regarding the IBP configuration of the Weighted Moving Average and Weighted Average forecast profiles. It requires a Source of Weights key figure, which stores the weights by which IBP multiplies the time series data. I'm not sure how to configure this key figure in the system in order to create these forecast profiles. Is this just a stored key figure that needs to be created? Please let me know any information that would help.

Thanks,

Melanie

Hello Sanjeev,

There is no pre-defined Key Figures with the purpose of using them as "Source of Weights". But there are indeed some Key Figures that may be used in sample Planning Area SAP6 (Demand), such as: ADJDELIVQTYPROFILEWEIGHT, CONSENSUSDEMANDPROFILEWEIGHT, FUTUREORDEREDQTYWEIGHT, etc.
You can find some information on Sample Planning Area for Demand: Planning Levels and Key Figures.

In addition, you may also create a Key Figure for this specific purpose. It just needs to be a Stored KF. You may also add calculations as required by your business.

Hi Matheus,

Can you provide more clarity to your answer? When storing weights for a forecast model in IBP, my client expects functionality similar to APO where a non-time-dependent profile is populated. If I store the weights in an IBP key figure, how do I make it not time-dependent so that they always work for the same weeks and does not roll into the past? I hope this is clear.

Thank you,

Susan

Hi Susan,

Yes, your question is clear.

In this case, you could configure the storing weights Key Figure as time-independent. This way, it will have just one record in the time series for the planning object.
You can find additional information about time-independent KF in our SAP Help Portal Time-Independent Key Figures .

Hi Matheus,

I have checked and I do not see a good way to use a time-independent key figure in this case. The purpose of the weights is to weight time periods, and so the weights do vary by time. Yet only the most recent ten weeks are weighted and the weights never change and should not roll. For example, the near-time horizon of week -1 should be weighted 30%, while week -2 should be weighted 20%, and so on. Any other ideas?

Thank you,

Susan

Hi Susan,

If the weights will vary for each period, then the Weight KF should be time-dependent, so you can add the different weights to the required periods.

Matheus
