Move storage type from one storage location to another

How do you move a storage type from one storage location to another?

Can this assignment change be done in

Log Exec---> Warehouse Management -->Interfaces >IM> Define storage location control

Please correct me if I am wrong or which other places in config do I need to make the changes?

Hi Medha,

Your Pick and Putaway strategies are totally dependent on Storage type

Storage type is assigned in customizing with storage type indicator and this indicator is in material master warehouse view

so there no assignment of aay storage location for storage type

the assignemnt can be made in:

Log Exec---> Warehouse Management -->Interfaces >IM> Define storage location control

If this assignment is in place, then when you receive materials into storage location A then it will go to storage type AAA

and when receivign into storage location B,then it will go to storage type BBB.

However, if you have already stock in storage type AAA Then you cannot move this stock to storage location B by doing this customizing.

Movements from one storage locaiton to another have to be made with transfer posting 311 either in MB1B or MIGO.

I have a storag type FG1 which is assigned to Storage location A . Also it has several bins with stock in it. I want to move this storage type FG1 from A and assign it to antoher storage location B.

So I need to empty out the storage type FG1 first and then move that storage type's assignment from location A to location B?

if you use this customizing the your storage location is stored in the quant for reference. switching the customizing will not update the information in the quant.

Hence, it looks like it is the quickest solution is to move that material to a non WM-location, switch the cutomizing and bring it back in.

Thank you Jurgen your answer is very helpful . I have been trying to move all the stock out of FG1 but I have one problem. Somehow even though FG1 is assigned only to Storage location A in config, when I go to LX02 , FG1 is showing up as if it exists in storage location A, C, and D. So I went to Lq01 to see if there are any posting changes pending but there are none. I dont know how to fix this.

check table LQUA with SE16, if your quants have a storage location in the record that is not equal to A.

Further, to be able to make better recommendations, please check how many and what storage locations are linked to your warehouse. Can be seen in table T320.

We have 15 storage locations linked to the warehouse. I will check the table you mentioned for the quants
