character format in script

hi experts,

in scripts, in character formats, in standard tab, we have a radio button name "protected".

can any one help me to know abt it. i want to know what is the use of it, what functionality it can provide.

The character string is not split by a line break, but printed together on the next line.

if found satisfactory plz reward
