New to SAP

Hi,

I am a Java developer, but right now I am very interested in learning SAP Java or SAP Portal or anything with SAP that would use Java language, my problem is I don't know anything about SAP.

I would appreciate if anyone of the SAP guru would direct to the right path or where / what to start in learning.

Thanks you very much.

Amy

    Hi Amy

Learning SAP Poratal matches for your requirment since you are a Java developer. SAP Portal is full and full Java coding and it is a booming technology too.

The codings are developed in Netweaver Developer Studio. So you can learn this.

    All the Best!!

    Regards,

    Nithya

    Hi, Amy,

First of all, I would suggest that you read some stuff about the Java EE technology and principles (if you are not already familiar with these, of course). You could use either http://java.sun.com/javaee/ or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_EE , for example.

Moreover, it's good to look at SAP NetWeaver's documentation at http://help.sap.com/ , and especially the SAP NetWeaver Developer's Guide - http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/45/5821c52d251feee10000000a1553f7/frameset.htm

Another example of using Java at SAP is the Developing of Java EE Applications. You can read the relevant documentation here: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/44/c778033d5360eee10000000a155369/frameset.htm

    Best regards,

    Yordan

      Hi Yordan,

This is great... being a Java-J2EE consultant past 8yrs... I'm thinking more towards something that I can quickly upgrade my skills and enjoy more coding into Java World!!

As I was going thru the entire SDN and the forums on get going with the SAP Portal, I really wanted to start with NetWeaver as suggested by this forum members... Thanks all.

I also realized that the download of NWDS 7.1 is taking forever even on T1 connection. I really appreciate what is the best way to try this out as I'm currently working with IBM tools RAD and WebSphere.

Per my understanding the NWDS comes with a server environment that I can run as J2EE application? Also, as I read the blogs... What exactly a SAP Login? Do I need to have a simulated SAP environment to start with NetWeaver...? kind of confused here...

Thanks in advance and of-course any more suggestion moving ahead with NetWeaver as a start up into SAP-Java world!!
