Hi Gurus,

I am planning make an O.S. upgrade from V5R3M0 to V5R4M0 with R/3 4.6C kernel 4.6D_EXT 2341 level.

Our landscape is a DB server with two application servers (all over iseries V5R3M0).

I review the OSS notes

Note 68440 - AS/400:How do I upgrade to a higher OS/400 Release?

Note 156557 - Released operating systems SAP Kernel 4.6x DB2/400

In this notes i see that our kernel version is OK.

I dont know wich secuence follow for decrease the dow time in our 3 servers.

Any sggestions?

Best Regards,

Ernesto Castro.

Hello Ernesto,

I hope you have reviewed Note 853564 - "iSeries: Known Issues with V5R4M0", and the Notes mentioned there also, like 852158 and 976837.

To decrease the downtime, execute the upgrade on 3 servers in parallel? (After DEV and QAS servers, the procedure should be straight-forward.)

Best regards,

Victor

Hello Victor,

Thanks for your reply.

I thinking make upgrade first in one application server (iseries SB3) and after days make the upgrade in the second application server (iseries 870) and some days later make the upgrade in Db server.

you know any problems when make an upgrade to V5R4M0??

Best regards,

Ernesto Castro.

Hello Ernesto,

Release upgrade on OS/400 level typically doesn't cause any issues for SAP, as long as proper SAP Notes and IBM Infoapar/PTFs are applied.

In my opinion, the successful upgrade on application server doesn't mean much for the database server - think if the application servers were on Linux or Windows. So I don't think the sequence matters, and you can do whatever you are comfortable with.

Best regards,

Victor
